Room by Room Guide to Getting Your Home Prepared for the New Year

Sometimes you need a change and there is no better time to do this than when the new year rolls around. It is a time meant for new beginnings but not just for yourself. It can be for your home as well! If you are wanting your home to change up, follow this simple room by room guide that can really get you ready!

With the bathroom being used daily, it will need a good cleaning for the new year. Start by emptying your drawers and tossing out anything you may not need. This includes old makeup, unused medicines, expired items, etc. Once you have completed this step, go ahead and wipe out any residue left over inside the drawers. This is not something that many people think about, but when completed, you will be happy you did it. After taking out the old, go ahead and fill your drawers with your new items. Without all the clutter, you can find them better. Drawers are not the only thing you need to spruce up. Go ahead and wipe down your shower, toilet, and counters as well.
If you want to take it a step further, purchase new decor to completely revamp and liven your current bathroom theme. Maybe you once loved the beach theme but are ready for a change. Now is the time!

It’s time to officially say goodbye to all those clothes left unworn in your closet. Especially if they have been lingering for years. With the new year, it’s time for a new wardrobe. If you are unsure of how to get rid of your clothes, consider donating your gently-used items to a charity or sell them online for a little extra cash. After your closet is cleaned and rearranged, it’s time to tackle the rest of your room beginning with your bed. Start the revamp process by washing your current sheets or completely tossing them for a new style. Rearrange your furniture for a simple but effective change. Maybe you’ve never had your dresser on the opposite side of the room, but now you can! And last, but not least, add a scented candle to the room. Preferably one you haven’t tried before. It can completely change the atmosphere in a fun and exciting way.

We know you might be hesitant to revamp/clean this room with all the pots and pans scattered everywhere (you’re not alone), but don’t worry. Getting your kitchen prepared is not as painful as you might think it will be. All it takes is a little time to get everything organized and wiped down for it to feel like new. If you want to really get more into it, try changing up your kitchen’s decor or throwing out worn-down equipment. We all know we have a cup or two that has seen better days. And while you’re throwing things out, make sure to check out your fridge for any possible expired food. Especially if it’s lingered around since Thanksgiving time. It’s time to let it go.

Living Room

Your living room may not need as big of a change as your other rooms, but even a simple difference wouldn’t hurt. Try rearranging your furniture in a new way that you haven’t before and add in new, exciting decor. Just like with your bedroom, a new scented candle can change the atmosphere for the better. Take it a step further by giving the room a new coat of paint. It’s a small change, but much needed.

Laundry Room

If you haven’t already, it’s time to get all your laundry finished before the time is up. You can’t ignore the mountain anymore with the new year right around the corner. Stick to your resolution to keep things clean and tidy by going on a massive laundry day spree. As a little bonus, kick off the time of change by switching up your detergent so even your clothes are a little different. Or at least smell different.
