July 4th is just around the corner, and you know what that means — fireworks and lots of them! Here in Middle Tennessee, we’re known for loving our amazing fireworks displays. Whether you attend a local Independence party here in Murfreesboro or head over to Nashville for the big fireworks event, your house could be at risk on the 4th of July.
If your neighbors negligently shoot fireworks towards your home or an accident occurs at your party, your house could take the brunt of the damage. Instead of worrying about your home on the 4th of July, use these tips to improve the safety of your custom home.
Are you one of the many homeowners who dread cleaning out your gutters? While you’re not alone, it is imperative that your gutters be spotless! If there is any dry material such as leaves, twigs, pine needles, etc. in your gutters and a firework lands in there, it will catch on fire quite rapidly.
One of the major 4th of July threats is overgrown trees, plants, and other natural material. If a firework fiasco was to happen, it’s all too easy for a tree to catch on fire. (Remember people, they’re called fireworks for a reason!) You don’t want to start a forest fire do you? Smokey the Bear wouldn’t be too thrilled with you if you did.
Instead of causing a ruckus, make sure to trim back your trees to allow fireworks ample space to marvel and amaze us. You can always call your local tree trimming service if you need assistance!
Regardless of how safe and cautious you may be the chance of an accident is always present. Just to be safe, keep a fire extinguisher nearby if you plan on using fireworks this Independence Day.
We understand that fireworks are exciting. If they weren’t, we wouldn’t be writing this article for you. However, do not allow little children or even teenagers to operate the fireworks at your party or home. Always have a responsible adult take care of purchasing, transporting and igniting the fireworks. This will reduce the chance of accidents, injuries or any other type of fireworks emergency.
If you do not plan on being home on the 4th of July, let your neighbor know. In the case of an emergency, your neighbors can take action and ensure that your home is safe and sound.
